How it is measured

This is the concrete reason start-stop systems specify EFB or AGM: the higher charge acceptance means the battery recovers fast enough between engine-off events to stay charged. A flooded battery in the same duty cycle accepts charge too slowly and progressively under-charges.

Charge acceptance declines as a battery ages, for the same reasons CCA does — rising internal resistance from sulfation and corrosion. Because the decline shows on the charging side first, a low charge-acceptance reading is often the earliest warning of a failing start-stop battery, before capacity or CCA have visibly fallen.
