A battery that arrives shelf-aged or damaged fails in service — often at the worst moment, at site cost far above the battery's price. The acceptance sequence takes minutes per unit and catches the defects while the supplier is still responsible (see manufacturing QC for the factory-side version of the same logic).
A failed acceptance test is a supplier conversation, not a repair: document the reading, quarantine the unit, and reject per the purchase terms. The pattern matters too — isolated failures are logistics damage; repeated failures across a batch point to a supplier or shipping problem worth escalating.
My take: Acceptance testing is the cheapest quality insurance a battery buyer has — a five-minute incoming check converts supplier problems from field emergencies into paperwork — and its real value is the pattern: one failure is noise, a batch of failures is a supplier signal.
Why: The failure curve is front-loaded: defects that will strand a site usually show themselves at arrival, before installation. Testing at the dock is where the buyer still has leverage — afterwards, the supplier's responsibility and the buyer's options both shrink.
